Daddy’s takin’ us to the zoo tomorrow,
Zoo tomorrow, zoo tomorrow.
Daddy’s takin’ us to the zoo tomorrow,
And we can stay all day…

Well – actually we went to the zoo yesterday.  As part of the celebration of Middle Daughter’s birthday, we made a trip to the Brookfield Zoo. We’re a bit late in celebrating, but the weather was nicer (slightly) than it was around the time of her actual birthday.

We’re goin’ to the zoo, zoo, zoo.
How ’bout you, you, you.
You can come too, too, too.
We’re goin’ to the zoo, zoo, zoo.

We had a running joke yesterday about the names of animals.  Can you pick out the name of the actual animal that we saw?

A) Double-wattled cassowary
B) Reticulated mukmuk
C) Lesser green-legged gishinko

Jack (the cat – remember?) is a bit shy around Middle Daughter.  However, when she butted up against these goats, they just butted her back.  Maybe we should get a pet goat?

Big black bear – he’s a huff-puff-a-puffin’
Coat’s too heavy – he’s a huff-puff-a-puffin’
Don’t get too near the huff-puff-a-puffin’
Or you won’t stay all day!

I’m of mixed opinions about zoos. On one hand, I love how  the girls are thrilled to see new animals. Really – there is a spark of inspiration that comes from experiencing things that they don’t encounter every day.  On the other hand, I’m not impressed by some of the living conditions – the bears and elephants, in particular.  (And the Brookfield Zoo just opened their new bear wilderness.)  I wonder what independent animal experts would say?  I guess I’m leaning toward supporting other conservation and rehabilitation efforts.

Stayed all day and I’m gettin’ sleepy.
Sittin’ in the car gettin’ sleep-sleep-sleepy.
Home already, and I’m sleep-sleep-sleepy
‘Cause we have stayed all day.

We’ve been to the zoo, zoo, zoo.
How ’bout you, you, you?
You came too, too, too.
We’ve been to the zoo, zoo, zoo.
