An apology for the poor blog output
I’d really like to be blogging on everything related to our upcoming move to Laurelville, but with work, church, and preparation for the move, I don’t actually have time to think or write much of anything.
On a different topic, the weather in the Midwest has been crazy warm for this time of year. If you’re into weather, you might enjoy reading Dr. Jeff Masters’ Wunderblog for today.
That’s all. Sorry.
Loving the winter weather
Check out the “winter” weather that we’re having in the Chicago ‘burbs…
And the extended forecast for the following five days…
You may say, “Ten day forecasts are worthless.” I reply, “I don’t really care, since we’ve already had a few days of bizarre (“unseasonably warm”) weather, and it’s technically still winter until next Tuesday.”
And I’m liking the fact that our flower beds should look nice when we’re trying to sell the house. I just hope that we don’t have a late frost.
Oh, there you are!
On Tuesday, I was complaining that someone kidnapped spring. I’m glad to report that spring has been found and has been returned safely.
Overnight, we’ve had 3+ inches of rain…
And more is on the way…
Here’s the forecast for today and tomorrow…
And we already have a lake in the backyard…
A seasonal poll
It’s been a while since the last poll, so it’s time for a new one. This one is easy, but if the answers don’t apply to your current locale, feel free to add your own.
P.S. If you’re so inclined, leave some comments explaining your choice!
Last day of spring: first day of Summer…
Summer (our monarch caterpillar) emerged from her chrysalis this morning. Oldest Daughter checked on her condition early in the morning while Summer was still inside. Sometime in the next hour, Summer made her first grand appearance as an adult. Here she is after Ordinary Spouse took her outside to warm up in the sun.
The last three weeks in the garden… 20 March 2010
I haven’t given my blog much attention during the last three weeks, and during that time spring has been making its appearance. A week or two ago, the usual floral friends started bursting out of the ground:
Ordinary Spouse and the girls cut a branch off our lilac and brought it inside to brighten our home. It is now pushing out some greenery. And throughout most of last week, we enjoyed sunny days with sixty degree temperatures. Ironically, spring arrived yesterday with a dusting of snow. However, it didn’t last long, and the weather is expected to turn warmer again this week.
Spring is in the air
This just in from wunderground.com: Spring is coming!
This week in the garden… Lent 2010
Well – the garden is a messy mix of snow and mud this week. Here’s the view from the front doorstep:
This view (and more of the same in the back yard) inspired Ordinary Spouse to make this profound statement on Facebook:
In my backyard the snow is melting, revealing last summer’s broken toys, leaf and twig detritus from fall, a winter’s worth of escaped bits of trash and spring’s first mud-holes. It must be Lent.
Ah, yes – Lent. Dwell on that parallel for a little bit. Isn’t it a wonderful comparison between what we find in our yards and what we find in our souls?
If you look more closely, you just might find the signs of new life, transformation, and resurrection:

Spring in the ‘burbs
Just some ordinary beauty around our house right now…
