Yep – it’s 4 a.m. again

4 July 2009

Well – I was right with that last blog post.  It’s 4 a.m. and I’m awake again.*  So I’m sitting on cold ceramic tile, getting caught up with family finances, and gathering together a few random tidbits from the week.

* Well, technically, it’s 6 a.m. now.  I tried to get back to sleep for about a half hour, then did the finances, and now I’m getting around to the aforementioned random tidbits.  From the sound of water in the hotel pipes, it would seem that this is the time when sane people start to stir.

Tidbit #1

So – I was blaming my early morning rising on all of the stuff that is happening this week.  It seemed like the moment I woke up in the middle of the night, my mind would already be going full throttle.  But this morning, as I was laying in bed and trying to get  back to sleep with my mind going full throttle, I said to myself, “Self, might it be that the reason that your mind has been going full throttle, is that you’ve been visiting the Hampton Inn breakfast area for coffee at all hours of the day, and not just at breakfast time?”  Hmmm…

Tidbit #2

They have taro bubble tea here!**  And it’s just a two minute walk from my room, with one of those minutes being the wait for the elevator.  It is a good thing that this place isn’t just down the street from my house.  I love bubble tea.

** Some of you are asking, “What is bubble tea?  And what is taro?”  If the thought of half-inch tapioca pearls in a cold beverage intrigues you, then bubble tea is your kind of drink.  Taro is “a tropical plant grown primarily as a vegetable food for its edible corm”, according to wikipedia.

Tidbit #3

We ate out with my parents last night (thanks, Mom!).  Youngest daughter had a traumatic incident at the end of the meal, however.  She needed a diaper change, but when she and Ordinary Mommy got to the restroom, they found that the diaper supply in our bag had been depleted.  When they returned to the table, she was whimpering, and according to Ordinary Mommy, she had expressed her anxiety thusly***:

YD:  Very… very… lost, my diapers – huh?

Happily, it was time to leave anyway, so the two of them returned to the hotel for a change.  All was well.

*** I am aware that this word may not actually be a word.  Complain to someone else.

My heart goes out to YD—huh? So sweet and disarming.
But you OM, sitting on the cold bathroom floor, drinking too much coffee, getting too little sleep…you will return from this week a changed man. You just can’t help yourself, can you? Beamlining yourself into the promised land right on time and in line with the Spirit and the Grace.
Greetings to one and all from me, CBM, one gratefully tour-guided convention newbie.

I’m glad you made the coffee connection before I had to say something like “I told you so” or “just because you can doesn’t mean you should”
